3 Dental Emergencies and How to Handle Them Until You See Your Dentist

Woman With Teeth Pain | Saticoy Plaza Dentistry

Why does it seem that all dental emergencies happen on a Sunday leaving you to wait until Monday before you can get relief?

Maybe it’s true, or maybe those weekend emergencies are memorable because they leave you feeling helpless and unsure what to do next.

Call Us First!

When you need an emergency dentist in Van Nuys, you should know that you can turn to Dr. Daniel Bacquet at Saticoy Plaza Dentistry. We make it a point to be available to you, and our office is often open on Saturdays, so if your emergency occurs over the weekend, there’s a good chance we can see you that day. Even if our office is closed on a Sunday, you can still reach us through our main office number.

Until we can see you, here are three emergencies with instructions for handling until you get to our office:

Knocked-Out Tooth

It can be pretty devastating to have a tooth knocked out, but you need to know that time is of the essence, and if you act quickly and follow the right steps, there’s a good chance we can save it. First, have someone call us and let us know what’s going on. Next, do not disturb or handle the root and attached tissue. It’s also essential to make sure the root stays moist, so place it in a cup of milk, water, or even saliva until you get to our office.

Severe Tooth Pain

A toothache is always a sign that a problem is developing, and a severe toothache means that part of your tooth that protects the nerve has been compromised. First, call our office to notify us. We always do our best to see patients in pain immediately; however, if you can’t get to our office right away, try ibuprofen to help calm the pain. Cold compresses on and off your face for 20-minute intervals can also provide some relief.

Lost Crown or Filling

If a crown falls out, be sure to handle it carefully and wrap it in a tissue until you can get to our office. A crown can often be re-cemented back in place if you get in to see us as soon as possible. We will need to replace a lost filling, but we need to protect the tooth, so please call us to arrange an appointment.

Don’t Suffer Needlessly!

An untreated emergency can have a significant impact on your oral health, so please don’t delay calling Saticoy Plaza Dentistry!
