Tooth Repair and Restoration in Van Nuys, CA

Dental Crowns and Bridges Van Nuys | Saticoy Plaza DentistryDamaged teeth can mar even the most beautiful smile. If you have missing or decayed teeth, you probably feel like that’s the only thing people notice about you.

We want to tell you that there’s no need to live with unhealthy teeth that affect your ability to enjoy life and make you feel self-conscious when you smile. At Saticoy Plaza Dentistry, we use high-quality ceramic crowns and bridges to restore your teeth to full health and dramatically improve your appearance.

All-Ceramic Dental Crowns

How Are Dental Crowns Used?

Crowns are a type of restoration that fixes damaged teeth, fills gaps between teeth, and covers up badly shaped or discolored teeth. A dental crown will also restore the function of the tooth so you can eat and chew properly. If a tooth has a cavity or crack that’s too large for a filling, it will need a crown. Teeth that have undergone root canals will also often need crowns to protect them.

How Does the Crown Procedure Work?

Once you and Dr. Bacquet have decided that a crown is the best option for you, we start by preparing the tooth to make sure it’s healthy and free of decay or disease. When we’re ready to start the procedure to place your crown, Dr. Bacquet will numb the area to be treated. He’ll take impressions of your prepared tooth, which are then sent to a dental lab where your new crown will be created. We will pick a shade that matches the color of your surrounding teeth, and you will leave the office with a temporary tooth the same day.

Van Nuys Dental Crowns and Bridges | Saticoy Plaza DentistryIn about two weeks, your newly fabricated crown will be ready for placement in your mouth. Dr. Bacquet will make any necessary adjustments to ensure proper fit and esthetics. Once you are happy with the way it looks and feels, we will cement it in place.

Dental Bridges

When Do You Use a Dental Bridge?

A bridge is a dental device that’s used to fill the space left by a missing tooth. Dental bridges typically consist of an artificial tooth (pontic) that is suspended between two crowns. The pontic sits in the space left by the missing tooth, and the crowns are attached to the teeth on either side.

A bridge is an important restoration because it fills the empty space and prevents neighboring teeth from drifting. Without a bridge, this movement can cause multiple teeth to shift which eventually leads to bite, alignment, and jaw problems. Dental bridges protect the structure of existing teeth and restore your healthy, vibrant smile.

Van Nuys Help for Your Damaged Smile

At Saticoy Plaza Dentistry, we have many options for fixing damaged or missing teeth. Dental crowns and bridges are just two examples of the ways we can restore your smile to full health. As part of your treatment process, Dr. Bacquet will share all your options, weigh the pros and cons of them, and help you make a decision that makes sense for you.

If you would like to take the necessary steps to enjoy a healthier, more beautiful smile, please give us a call! We will be happy to arrange a convenient consultation to discuss your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental Crowns | Saticoy Plaza DentistryDental crowns are a widely used restoration placed over a weakened tooth to strengthen and protect it from further damage. A well-made dental crown acts similarly to a natural tooth, restoring your ability to speak and chew normally.

We May Recommend a Dental Crown to Solve Any Number of Issues:

  • Reinforce a tooth weakened by teeth grinding
  • Support and protect a tooth after root canal treatment
  • Restore dental implants
  • Protect a fractured tooth that cannot be repaired with composite bonding

Since crowns are designed to completely surround a natural tooth, they are also referred to as “caps.” This also makes crowns a good choice for correcting certain cosmetic flaws, like concealing a tooth that is severely discolored and cannot be whitened.

There are several materials that can be used to create dental crowns, but we choose all-porcelain because they look far more natural than a crown made of porcelain fused to metal.

If you are looking for a solution and think a dental crown may be the right answer, please call our Van Nuys dental office. We will be happy to discuss the possibility of a crown as well as other options that might be more appropriate.

Top Dentist in Van NuysOver the years, we have watched how the materials we use for dental crowns in Van Nuys have improved in both appearance and durability. So the answer is that no one should notice that you have a crown unless you tell them!

The Quality of Dental Crowns

Of course, you need the skill of a dentist like Dr. Daniel Bacquet who understands that aesthetics and function are both important when designing a new crown. The goal of a crown is to protect and strengthen a damaged or weakened tooth, but there’s no reason we can’t use the opportunity to improve the appearance of your smile as well.

The first step is to meet with Dr. Bacquet who will tell you if a crown is the right treatment for you. After he determines it’s your best option, he will work with you to choose a shade for your restoration that matches surrounding teeth for a seamless appearance.

We work with only the top custom dental labs in the area where skilled technicians fabricate your new crown to our exact specifications. The result is a high-quality, durable crown that restores the health, function, and beauty of your smile.

What are Dental Crowns | Saticoy Plaza Dentistry A dental crown, also referred to as a cap, is best known as a restoration that strengthens and protects a damaged tooth. Crowns can be made of several materials, but porcelain is the most popular because it mimics the appearance of natural tooth enamel.

Cases Where a Crown Would Be a Good Choice:

  • Restore a severely damaged tooth where a filling is no longer an option
  • Support and protect a root-canaled tooth
  • Restore the function and appearance of a dental implant
  • Change the appearance of a tooth for esthetic reasons

The process for placing crowns at our Van Nuys dental office starts with a consultation. Once we decide that a crown is right for you, we start by preparing your tooth so the crown fits perfectly. Next, we take impressions that will be used to create a model of your teeth. We provide you with a temporary crown and send the model to a dental lab where your new crown is customized just for you.

In about two weeks, we’ll have you return to our office to place the crown. Dr. Bacquet will check for fit and proper bite, then polish the tooth and cement it in place. Your new crown will feel natural and blend in seamlessly with the rest of your smile.

Dental Crowns | Caring for Your New Crown | Saticoy Plaza DentistryDental crowns placed at our Van Nuys dental office are made using highly durable materials and can last as long as 15 years with proper care. Since they are a dental prosthetic, however, certain factors will affect the condition and lifespan of your restoration.

How Long Do Crowns Last?

The longevity of your crown depends primarily on your underlying dental health. Periodontal disease is an enemy of dental work because if your gums are not healthy, they compromise support of the tooth. While the crown itself will not decay, it is still necessary to care for your gums properly to keep the underlying tooth structure healthy.

Take care of your crowns just as you would your natural teeth. Brushing and flossing routinely, visiting us for exams and cleaning appointments, and taking care not to eat a lot of sticky or chewy candy will all extend the lifespan of your new restoration. If you aren’t sure whether you’re following proper oral hygiene at home, don’t hesitate to ask Dr. Bacquet to show you the optimal technique.

Loose Dental Crown FAQ | Saticoy Plaza DentistryCrowns are very durable restorations and, with proper care and oral hygiene, should last for many years. If your crown does feel loose or even comes off, please contact our Van Nuys dental office as soon as possible.

Why Do Crowns Become Loose?

There are many reasons why a dental crown can become loose. One of the most common reasons is eating too many sticky or chewy foods. Gummy candy can cause the cement that holds your crown in place to loosen. There's nothing wrong with an occasional treat, but if you indulge in these kinds of foods frequently, you may be compromising the strength of your crown.

Over time, the cement holding your crown in place can start to degrade. If you lose a crown for this reason, and there is no underlying damage to the tooth, we may be able to cement it back in place.

Tooth decay can also be a culprit when a crown becomes loose or falls off. The crown itself won't get cavities, but if good home hygiene practices are not followed, it’s possible for decay to start near the gum line and gradually damage your natural tooth.

Dental Crown Repair in Van Nuys

It's easy to avoid these problems by using common sense and making appointments for us to check your dental crowns at our Van Nuys dental office. With proper care, your crown will provide many years of good use.
